Folk musician Les Thomas sends his greetings

Happy May Day!

I’d like to send a message of support and solidarity to the Max Brenner 19 in particular.

The 19 are facing charges in a Melbourne court over their legitimate protest highlighting ongoing atrocities and injustices in Palestine. It takes courageous people who are willing to make a stand like the 19 to make the world a better place. That’s why the powerful target them for prosecution.

I’ve personally worked with a lot of the accused on social justice and workers rights campaigns. Predictable smears of “anti-semitism” for wanting the same rights for Jews and Arabs are dishonest, abusive and totally out of order. I know you would be the first to speak out against genuine anti-semitism.

My message to the 19 is that you are not alone. “An injury to one is an injury to all” still holds true. It might be pro-Palestinians today, environmentalists or anyone else tomorrow. You have the support and attention of thousands who understand the need for justice in Palestine and the need to defend civil liberties in Australia.
